Porsche Taycan outpaces Tesla Model S Plaid in 7:07 Nürburgring lap

Porsche recently made headlines by revealing an impressive Nürburgring lap time of 7:07.55 for a Taycan electric sedan variant, withholding specific model details. Speculation points toward this being the Taycan Turbo GT, part of an upcoming range slated for release later this year. Previous sightings of prototypes undergoing tests at the Nürburgring support this assumption.

While falling short of breaking the electric vehicle production record set by the Rimac Nevera at 7:05:298 last August, the Taycan’s new time remains competitive. Although information about this Taycan variant remains undisclosed, expectations center around a 1,000-hp output and an approximate $200,000 price tag, setting it apart from the limited-production, high-priced Rimac.

This achievement surpasses both the Tesla Model S Plaid with Track Package (7:25.231) and Porsche’s current fastest Taycan, the Taycan Turbo S (7:33.35). Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan line, praised Porsche’s development driver, Lars Kern, for consistently achieving remarkable lap times during multiple runs on the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, using a minimally modified pre-production prototype for safety.

Anticipated for release in mid-March, Porsche plans to unveil a video showcasing the entire Nürburgring run, coinciding with the introduction of the updated 2025 Taycan range in the U.S. These updates are set to include slight styling adjustments and revised internals for the headlights, as confirmed by sightings of prototypes.
