Magma Performance Sub-brand Takes Aim at BMW M and AMG

Genesis has long hinted at the development of its own performance sub-brand, akin to Hyundai’s N division. Finally confirmed by the automaker, the brand is named Magma, suggesting exciting developments ahead.

With plans to introduce a high-performance Magma variant for each model in its lineup, Genesis unveiled the GV60 Magma concept to offer a glimpse of what’s in store. This concept, slated for production, boasts enhancements to its chassis, cooling system, thermodynamics, and presumably, horsepower.

Sporting a wider profile and lower stance compared to the standard GV60 electric compact crossover, the concept incorporates various aerodynamic elements, including a distinctive rear wing. At the front, a redesigned fascia with additional intakes serves to cool both brakes and powertrain, which likely features upgraded battery and motors for increased power output.

Accentuating the interior are bucket seats with body-colored seatbacks and a blend of suede and leather upholstery, complemented by accent stitching. Genesis emphasizes that Magma models will prioritize high performance without compromising on comfort or aesthetics.

Involving Belgian racing icon Jacky Ickx in the development process, Genesis underscores its commitment to performance excellence. The GV60 Magma concept will make its official debut at the 2024 New York auto show alongside three preceding concepts developed by the Magma division.

Among these concepts is the GV80 Coupe concept from the previous year’s show, which introduced the signature orange paint finish anticipated for Magma vehicles. Additionally, the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept, unveiled at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals, hints at a potential hybrid powertrain exclusive to Magma cars.

Another concept, the G80 Magma Special, offers a glimpse into a high-performance version of the G80 sedan slated for exclusive release in West Asia. Lastly, Genesis will unveil the Neolun concept at the New York auto show, potentially previewing its forthcoming full-size SUV.
