2025 G-Class EV delivers 579 hp with quad-motor power and 116-kWh battery

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the highly anticipated electric G-Class, built on a modified version of the gas-powered G-Class’ platform, boasting four motors producing 579 hp combined.

Dubbed the G 580 with EQ Technology, it’s set for a 2025 U.S. release, with sales beginning in the second half and an exclusive Edition One version initially. Equipped with a standard 116-kwh battery, its range remains undisclosed by Mercedes, but its DC charging capability allows for rapid 10-80% charges in just over 30 minutes.

Featuring four motors powering each wheel individually, the electric G-Class achieves precise torque distribution, enabling maneuvers like the tank turn and G-Steering for tight turns, crucial for off-road trails with obstacles.

The suspension setup, combining an independent front and solid rear axle with adjustable dampers, ensures off-road prowess, matching its gas-powered counterpart’s climbing ability and surpassing it in fording depth and ground clearance.

Updates for the 2025 gas-powered G-Class include a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 for the G 550 and mild-hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency, alongside AMG’s G 63 retaining its twin-turbocharged V-8 with mild-hybrid enhancements.

The 2025 update also introduces off-road-focused driver-assist features, such as the Offroad Cockpit, offering essential off-road information on both the gauge cluster and infotainment screen, including vehicle positioning and tire pressure.

Additionally, a Transparent Hood feature utilizes the surround-view camera system to provide a view beneath the engine bay, aiding off-road navigation and maneuvering around obstacles. Pricing details for the 2025 G-Class lineup, including the electric G 580 with EQ Technology, will be disclosed closer to its market debut.
