Tesla’s new Model 3 Performance: 510 HP, 0-60 in 2.9 seconds

Tesla has announced a new version of the Model 3 Performance, now part of its refreshed Model 3 lineup, codenamed Highland. This all-wheel-drive model is powered by dual motors that produce 510 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 163 mph.

With an estimated range of 296 miles, this updated Model 3 Performance offers slightly less driving distance than the Long Range All-Wheel Drive, which holds the longest range in the Model 3 series at 341 miles. The latest drive units provide greater consistency and output, offering a 22% boost in continuous power, a 32% rise in peak power, and 16% more peak torque.

Tesla reports that the energy consumption of this updated model is lower than that of its predecessor, suggesting improved efficiency. The new Model 3 Performance is equipped with adaptive damping for enhanced handling, along with 20-inch forged wheels fitted with staggered Pirelli P Zero 4 tires, adding to its sporty appeal.

Track Mode has been enhanced to offer greater control by integrating suspension adjustments, powertrain cooling, and the vehicle dynamics controller into one cohesive system. The updated Model 3 Performance shares a similar look with the rest of the refreshed Model 3 lineup.

Improvements to aerodynamics for the new Model 3 Performance include a 5% drag reduction, a 36% decrease in lift, and a 55% boost in front-to-rear lift balance compared to the earlier model. Inside, it comes with new sport seats, along with other updates like a larger horizontal touchscreen and the removal of control stalks.

The Model 3 Performance has a starting price of $52,990, which makes it the priciest among the Model 3 variants. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive begins at $47,740, while the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive is priced at $38,990. The Model 3 Performance can be ordered now, with similar updates expected for the Tesla Model Y crossover soon.
