Competing in the compact sport sedan segment, the 2024 Genesis G70 combines robust engines with luxurious amenities, presenting a formidable challenge to rivals such as the Audi A4, Cadillac CT4, and BMW 3-Series.
DESIGN
This year, Genesis updates the G70’s shield grille, now featuring a new Genesis emblem with an intricate engraved design reminiscent of high-end watches. Also, two fresh exterior colors join the lineup: Vatna Gray, same as our test car, and Kawah Blue.
Accentuating the distinctive front end are stacked headlights, while the car’s sleek profile embodies the allure of a sports sedan, especially with the addition of striking 19-inch wheels from the Sport Prestige package. The rear lighting, echoing the front, features sport aluminum trim and a broad sunroof.
Inside, a tranquil ambiance prevails with sleek lines and elegant color schemes, enhanced by decorative surface patterns and touch-sensitive climate control display accents. The instrument cluster combines a watch-inspired analog speedometer with an 8.0-inch digital display for gauges, offering a blind-spot view when indicating a turn.
PERFORMANCE
Standard rear-wheel drive is accompanied by an optional all-wheel-drive system available for $2,100. In 2024, the previous base engine is replaced by a new 2.5-liter turbo inline-4 engine, generating 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
Surpassing its predecessor by 48 hp, the 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, also utilized with the V-6 option. Standard for 2024 is a high-performance Brembo brake system.
With increased power, the 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine enhances overall performance, shaving off the 0-60 mph time from the low-six-second range to the high fives. In the Sport Prestige setup, the V-6 model receives upgrades such as an improved suspension with adaptive dampers and a limited-slip differential.
All variants boast firm tuning with minimal body lean and offer selectable drive modes. The G70’s steering is precise and responsive, coupled with a dependable Brembo braking system suitable for urban driving.
VERDICT
Priced at $41,500, the 2024 Genesis G70, when equipped with the Sport Prestige Package costing $4,200, amounts to a total of $46,950.
Competition
Genesis provides turbo-4 and turbo-6 engines, yet its engine lineup is less varied than competitors’. Brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi each offer unique perspectives on entry-level luxury vehicles.
Simplicity characterizes BMW’s approach, complemented by a diverse powertrain lineup. Mercedes places a strong emphasis on style and a wide range of technological features.
While Audi’s A4 is a reliable option, it tends towards conservatism compared to its counterparts. Volvo’s S60 distinguishes itself with a serene interior and a range of powertrain options, notably the plug-in Recharge model. Cadillac introduces the sleek CT4 and its formidable V performance series.
