Initially scheduled for production in 2020, the second-generation Tesla Roadster missed its deadline, with Elon Musk subsequently setting new production targets every year.
In his latest update via his personal X account, Musk announced a late 2024 reveal for the production model, aiming for deliveries to commence in 2025, revealing significant upgrades from the original 2017 concept.
Musk disclosed SpaceX’s involvement in the car’s design, boasting a sub-one-second acceleration from 0-60 mph, an improvement from the initially quoted 1.9 seconds.
Tesla had initially projected a 200-kwh battery pack for a 620-mile range, with Musk later hinting at a “SpaceX rocket thruster option package” to achieve a 1.1-second acceleration from 0-60 mph.

Despite the delays, Tesla still intends to offer the promised package, potentially with enhanced performance, as initially outlined in 2017 with pricing starting at $200,000 for the standard model and $250,000 for the Founder Series.
Following the reveal, Tesla began taking reservations, requesting a $50,000 deposit for the standard model and the full $250,000 price upfront for the Founder Series.
The Roadster’s delay isn’t the sole focus for Tesla, as Musk unveiled plans in 2022 for a next-generation platform to introduce smaller, more affordable models, with reports suggesting a crossover could debut around 2025.
