Dodge recently teased an upcoming coupe set to replace both the Challenger and Charger models, sharing “pre-production model” images on Facebook. The full reveal is expected later this year, showcasing a design reminiscent of the 2022 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept.
Earlier indications from Dodge suggested the cessation of Charger and Challenger production by the end of 2023, signaling a shift toward electric vehicles. While embracing electric motors, Dodge maintains its nostalgic styling, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1968 Charger featured in “Bullitt,” “Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Fast and Furious,” rather than the 1970 Challenger.
Despite potential features like an all-wheel-drive powertrain with up to 800 hp and a “multi-speed” transmission in the Daytona SRT concept, these may not entirely carry over to the production version. The model is expected to utilize Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, designed for future EVs, aligning with the automaker’s broader strategy for electric models.
Even with the transition to electric power, Dodge is not completely abandoning V-8 engines. The brand is set to introduce “Last Call” special editions of the V-8 Durango SUV for 2024, following a similar strategy applied to the Challenger and Charger in their final model year. This move signifies the approaching end of the V-8 era at Dodge, aligning with Stellantis’ emphasis on electrification.
