Xiaomi unveils 664 hp SU7, claiming superior performance to Porsche, packed with more tech than Tesla

Xiaomi made a significant foray into the automotive industry with the introduction of the SU7, an electric sedan that seamlessly combines the elegance of a Porsche Taycan with a formidable power output of up to 664 hp. The foundation of this newcomer lies in the Modena platform.

Crafted with a cell-to-body battery configuration, the Modena platform maximizes space efficiency. Despite being slightly longer than the Taycan, Xiaomi claims the SU7’s performance will rival its German counterpart.

The powertrain lineup, borrowing nomenclature from traditional combustion engines, starts with the V6, housing a 295 hp rear motor. Stepping up, the V6s boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generating a peak 664 hp, enabling lightning-fast accelerations of under 2.8 seconds for 0-62 mph.

Xiaomi isn’t stopping there; teasing the HyperEngine V8s set for a 2025 debut, promising even more potent horsepower than the V6s.

With battery options ranging from 73.6-kwh to a staggering 150-kwh unit, Xiaomi forecasts an over 600-mile range for the SU7, powered by the largest battery configuration.

Having invested $10 billion in its EV division over a decade, Xiaomi allocated a part to a Beijing plant dedicated to producing the SU7 and future models.

The SU7, currently in pre-production, aims for a market debut in the imminent months, withholding pricing details until closer to launch.

Initially targeting the Chinese market, Xiaomi contemplates broadening its reach. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s chief, aspires to position the company among the world’s top five car manufacturers, hinting at global aspirations for the SU7 and beyond.
