2023 Lexus NX 450h+ Luxury

We had the chance to test drive a 2023 Lexus NX 450h+ Luxury model, which sported a striking Cadmium Orange exterior and 20-inch dark gray metallic wheels.

At the front, the grille stands tall and nearly vertical, complemented by large intakes positioned just below its intricate headlights. Although the side profile may initially appear conventional, Lexus has incorporated numerous intriguing lines and angles to add visual interest.

Moving inside, the NX features a generously sized touchscreen conveniently positioned within easy reach of most drivers. While the choice of materials leans towards molded plastics, Lexus compensates by providing a variety of vibrant colors to enhance the overall aesthetic. However, it’s worth noting that genuine leather is not available, with Lexus exclusively offering synthetic alternatives.

PERFORMANCE

The NX 450h features a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid AWD electric engine, providing a total system horsepower of 304. This engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission, and the model offers optional all-wheel drive capabilities.

With this powertrain, the NX 450+ achieves an estimated 0-60 mph in 6 seconds, as estimated by Lexus. Additionally, it offers an approximate range of 36 miles on all-electric power. While it may not be suitable for long commutes, it serves well for running errands close to home.

Featuring a smooth and enjoyable ride, the NX plug-in hybrid makes a lasting impression through its impressive acceleration and partially electrified powertrain, which enhances steering feel for a more dynamic driving experience. Alongside a serene interior, this exceptional daily driver is effortless to park and maneuver due to its compact size.

VERDICT

The NX press car we tested came with a price tag of $56,555. After considering additional features such as Advanced Park ($250), Digital Inner Mirror ($200), Triple Beam Headlamps with washers and cornering lamps ($850), a 6.6 kilowatt internal charging system ($800), and a few other options, the grand total reached an astonishing $62,780.

Competition

The NX stands out among its competitors, occupying a unique position between smaller and slightly larger options in its class. Potential comparisons can be made with BMW’s X1 and X3 models, as well as Mercedes-Benz’s GLA and GLC.

Two noteworthy contenders that directly compete with the NX include the Infiniti QX50, which boasts advanced technology but lacks excitement due to its turbo-4 engine, and the Volvo XC40, known for its playful design and pricier electric vehicle variant.

For those seeking a more budget-friendly alternative with luxurious features akin to Lexus, the Mazda CX-50 is worth considering. However, it’s important to note that the CX-50 falls short in terms of noise levels, which might be a drawback for some buyers.
