Hyundai unveils powerful Ioniq 5 N at Goodwood with 640 horsepower, reaching 62 mph in 3.4 seconds

Hyundai debuted the electric Ionic 5 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing an impressive high-performance version of the Ioniq 5. This remarkable model boasts a swift acceleration, going from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds, and achieves a top speed of 161 mph.

To enter the performance market, Hyundai completely redesigned the Ioniq 5 for this N-branded production vehicle. It offers two options: front-wheel drive and dual-motor configurations. The dual-motor variant can generate up to 641 horsepower in boost mode, while delivering around 600 horsepower and 545 pound-feet of torque under normal conditions (subject to change as per Hyundai).

While the battery pack capacity remains the same as its predecessor at 77.4 kWh of usable energy, Hyundai has made improvements in battery chemistry, enabling it to stretch to 84.0 kWh. Additionally, the company has enhanced the thermal management system, incorporating a larger cooling area, an improved motor oil cooler, and a battery chiller to optimize performance.

The Ioniq 5 N features an upgraded regenerative braking system, utilizing larger 40cm-diameter discs at the front and 36cm discs at the rear. To accommodate wider tires on its 21-inch wheels, the vehicle has been made lower and wider at the bottom, with an extended length of 80mm and an enhanced diffuser for increased downforce.

Although pricing details remain undisclosed, the Ioniq 5 N is slated for release in early 2024. Information about the EV’s range is also yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be announced in the coming months.
