Tesla Model Y ranks second in US sales, only surpassed by Ford F-150

The sales performance of the Tesla Model Y continues to be highly impressive, maintaining a strong position in the market. Following its achievement as the global leader in passenger car sales during the first quarter of 2023, the Model Y has sustained its remarkable growth in the United States as well.

Data reveals that registrations for Tesla’s most popular model have doubled, reaching 127,541 in the initial four months of 2023 compared to the previous year. Notably, the Model Y secured the second-highest sales figures among all vehicle types in the US, falling just behind the Ford F-150 pickup truck, which recorded nearly 240,000 sales during the same period.

This accomplishment places the Model Y ahead of renowned cars and SUVs such as the Toyota Camry, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and others that have traditionally dominated the sales charts.

Impressively, the Model Y accounted for more than half of Tesla’s total registrations during this period, which amounted to 211,842. Following closely behind was the Model 3, Tesla’s second-best seller, with 72,259 registrations, reflecting a 28 percent increase from the previous year.

Combined, the Model Y and Model 3 contributed to almost 200,000 registrations out of Tesla’s total of 211,842. The Model X crossover experienced a 15 percent increase in registrations, reaching 8,216, while the Model S sedan saw a decline of 67 percent to 3,826 registrations.

With 211,842 registrations, marking a year-over-year increase of 52 percent, Tesla solidified its position as the leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in January-April 2023. This accounted for a significant 60.8 percent market share in the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) segment.
