Kia and Hyundai have unveiled an innovative tire featuring an integrated snow chain system, incorporating shape memory alloy modules within the wheel structure.
Hyundai elaborates that this cutting-edge tire technology allows for the automatic deployment of shape memory alloy with a simple push of a button from the cabin, providing electric vehicle drivers with an efficient snow chain-like grip during winter driving.
The tire’s design includes radial, evenly spaced grooves housing shape memory alloy modules, capable of deployment upon applying an electric current and reverting to their original shape when stowed inside the tire.
