2025 Toyota Crown Signia Limited

Toyota’s decision to debut the Crown sedan in 2023 sparked plenty of discussion. Seen as Avalon’s spiritual successor, it entered an auto market that had largely shifted away from traditional sedans. Its hybrid-only powertrains, while efficient, lacked the refinement Avalon was known for. Fast forward to 2025, and the Crown Signia introduces a bold new chapter, leaving room to speculate about Toyota’s evolving strategy.

Described by Toyota as a crossover SUV, the Crown Signia’s wagon-inspired shape challenges conventional labels. During a drive from Lodi to Elk Grove in the flagship 2025 Crown Signia Limited, its capabilities began to take shape. The experience highlighted the vehicle’s unique design and hinted at its role in Toyota’s diverse lineup moving forward.

DESIGN

Toyota’s Crown Signia injects fresh appeal into its SUV lineup, blending upscale features with a refined, contemporary design. Just as the Crown sedan redefined Toyota’s premium sedan philosophy, the Signia takes a bold step forward with elegant styling. Positioned as a potential successor to the Venza, it offers a sophisticated appearance and Lexus-like refinement while forging a distinctive identity within Toyota’s offerings.

Finished in vibrant Finish Line Red, our test vehicle paired its striking exterior with a practical black interior. The Limited trim showcased high-quality materials and thoughtfully designed textures. Convenient entry, excellent visibility, and a composed ride enhanced its versatility. In urban settings, its smooth and responsive acceleration created a refined, quiet atmosphere perfect for daily commutes.

PERFORMANCE

Powering the Crown Signia Limited is Toyota’s hybrid system, combining a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with dual electric motors—one at each axle—for all-wheel drive. With 240 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, the specs may seem modest, but the performance surprises. Acceleration is assertive yet smooth, delivering a balanced and responsive driving experience that feels well-suited for everything from city streets to open highways.

No sluggishness disrupts the drive, thanks to an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT) equipped with paddle shifters for added control. The all-wheel-drive system prioritizes front-wheel drive to conserve fuel but shifts up to 80% of power to the rear when traction demands it. At lower speeds, the hybrid system allows for electric-only cruising, effortlessly boosting fuel efficiency while maintaining seamless transitions.

A composed ride and elevated stance enhance visibility, while the cabin remains quiet due to Toyota’s meticulous soundproofing. Steering is precise, making handling feel more car-like than SUV-like, and the hybrid system’s acceleration is brisk yet unobtrusive. Fuel economy impresses with ratings of 39 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 38 mpg combined. For added utility, the Signia offers a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds.

VERDICT

We spent a week behind the wheel of the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia Limited, which carries an MSRP of $47,990. Adding options like the Advanced Technology Package ($1,865), Finish Line Red paint ($425), wheel locks ($105), and the Preferred Accessory Package with carpet mats and a first aid kit ($405), the total came to $52,565 after fees.

Pros: Unique wagon-like design, easy access, strong fuel economy.

Cons: Lacks polish, uncertain positioning in Toyota’s range, on the pricier side.
