2027 Mercedes GLB EV arrives with huge superscreen and available seven seat layout

Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to show the next-gen GLB on December 8, and it arrives in the U.S. for 2027. It still carries that upright, boxy look that makes the GLB easy to spot, but the cabin changes in a big way. A triple-screen setup similar to the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake leads the redesign, and higher trims can add the MBUX Superscreen that stretches to the passenger side. Base versions skip that extra screen for a cleaner, simpler layout.

Screen sizes haven’t been confirmed, though expectations match the CLA with a 10.25-inch digital cluster and dual 14-inch touchscreens. Mercedes mixes in a few physical controls below a floating-style center console. Buyers who want some drama can option a panoramic roof with illuminated stars, creating a cool night look that stands out from most crossovers.

A roof panel that switches from clear to opaque in milliseconds carries over from the CLA, controlled through the infotainment display. AMG Line trim appears in this preview, confirmed by the digital cluster graphics, and the cabin features upgrades like a Burmester audio system and a head-up display. What really sets the GLB apart is its seating flexibility, since buyers can add a third row with two individual seats.

Seven-seat models include a sliding second row, while five-seat versions can add it as an option. When the extra seats aren’t needed, they fold flat into the cargo floor, giving the GLB a useful mix of space and versatility. Mercedes hasn’t released drivetrain numbers yet, but it clearly hints at a size bump and noticeable improvements in second-row legroom compared to the current version.

Headroom also grows thanks to a nearly flat roofline that benefits both rows. Every model comes with a glass roof, though only upgraded versions feature the illuminated star pattern and adjustable transparency. It feels like Mercedes wants this SUV to check both boxes: family-friendly comfort and a premium feel without going overboard.

Powertrains should match the CLA lineup, including single- and dual-motor EV options and a mild-hybrid setup centered around a turbocharged 1.5-liter M252 four-cylinder. That engine connects to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends power to the front wheels or an available all-wheel-drive system. Electric models are expected to start with rear-wheel drive, with optional 4Matic for extra traction.

This launch continues Mercedes’ compact refresh, which will also bring a new GLA and a smaller G-Class. A long-term replacement for the A-Class stays on the roadmap, though it’s not yet clear if it comes as both a sedan and hatchback. One model that won’t return is the B-Class minivan, as Mercedes shifts its compact lineup toward crossovers and more premium-leaning designs.
