A luxurious midsize crossover SUV, it offers the flexibility of a third-row option, accommodating up to seven passengers. For those seeking a sportier edge, a new coupe-like variant enters the lineup, providing a sharper alternative to competitors like the BMW X5 and X6, Audi Q7 and Q8, as well as the Mercedes GLE-Class. This variation brings a fresh, more dynamic option to the segment.
DESIGN
As a midsize SUV, the GV80 provides generous space for four passengers and ample cargo room, all while offering excellent visibility and a strong presence on the road. The Coupe version takes on a more dynamic look with a sharply sloped rear window, added air vents, metallic pedals, and a flatter steering wheel, contributing to its sportier, more engaging design. Our test model showcased a striking Bering Blue exterior and Ultramarine Blue interior.
Inside, the cabin strikes a harmonious balance of luxury and comfort. The leather seats are soft, with meticulous stitching that enhances their visual appeal and comfort. A leather-wrapped steering wheel adds an extra layer of refinement, enhancing the driving experience and further elevating the cabin’s premium feel.
The dashboard’s glossy plastic trim offers a modern touch, with its pixelated pattern adding a unique, technological flair that enhances the overall ambiance. This design choice adds an intriguing contrast to the otherwise refined interior. The console trim, while sleek and minimalistic, exudes a contemporary, stylish vibe that aligns with modern luxury, offering a refreshing departure from traditional designs.
PERFORMANCE
In the E-SC AWD, the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 generates 409 horsepower, supported by a mild-hybrid system with a 48V starter/generator and an electric supercharger to improve throttle response. Combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this all-wheel-drive setup delivers power smoothly, ensuring responsive performance on a variety of surfaces while maintaining impressive efficiency.
Acceleration is rapid, and the GV80 feels agile at lower speeds, though its weight becomes more noticeable during harder pushes. Despite its size, the handling remains surprisingly nimble, offering a level of engagement that belies its dimensions. Stability is firm, with minimal body roll, but the steering, while precise, lacks a bit of feedback. The real highlight is the GV80’s refined ride quality—smooth and steady, perfect for long highway journeys, all while keeping the cabin quiet and serene.
VERDICT
We spent a week with the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe 3.5T E-SC MHEV AWD, priced at $85,750. With the optional Bering Blue exterior for $650, a $30 NFC keycard, and additional fees, the final price rose to $87,780.
Competition
Genesis takes aim at the European luxury SUV market with the GV80 Coupe, positioning it against formidable competitors. The BMW X5 offers a compact third-row, while the sportier X6 Coupe takes a performance-focused approach. Mercedes counters with the GLE and GLE Coupe, though the latter is exclusive to AMG performance variants.
Audi’s Q7 caters to those seeking a three-row option, while the Q8 sticks to a five-seat layout. With the upcoming electric Q8 E-Tron, the Q8’s future becomes more uncertain. Infiniti’s 2025 QX65 coupe will soon join the fray, yet it faces a tough battle against these established rivals. The GV80 Coupe’s blend of style and performance gives it an edge, ready to carve its niche in this competitive field.
