Mazda’s inaugural foray into American EV territory came via the MX-30, a quirky compact crossover that never quite found its rhythm. Hampered by a limited 100-mile range and cramped interior space, it remained a California-only experiment before quietly exiting the stage. Now, Mazda is turning its electric ambitions toward China, where its upcoming EZ-60 SUV is being teased ahead of a full unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Built as a high-riding counterpart to the EZ-6 sedan—badged as the 6e in Europe—the EZ-60 leans heavily on design cues from the Arata concept revealed in 2024. Its silhouette is clean and purposeful, with an LED light bar stretching from edge to edge above a grille that carries hints of Mazda’s Kodo DNA. Just above, a narrow vent tucked into the hood adds a layer of visual complexity and potential aerodynamic function.

Along its profile, the EZ-60 wears taut sheet metal and pronounced character lines that speak to precision rather than aggression. Side mirrors are swapped for aerodynamic camera stalks, further emphasizing efficiency. The D-pillar swoops forward with a fastback flourish reminiscent of the Mazda3 hatchback, while the new angular badge reinforces the brand’s design evolution in the EV space.
Powertrain specs are still under wraps, but industry whispers suggest the EZ-60 may ride on the same bones as the Changan-backed Deepal S07. If true, expect configurations ranging from a fully electric model to a plug-in hybrid variant with a range-extending twist. Mazda is expected to lift the curtain fully at Auto Shanghai on April 23.
