Jaguar Type 00 Concept Unveiled: First in Trio of Ultra-Luxury EVs by 2025

Jaguar is embracing a daring strategy to redefine its identity as a boutique luxury electric vehicle maker. With plans for three ultra-premium EVs, the brand is focusing on a more exclusive audience, aiming to set new standards in design and innovation.

Launching in late 2025, the first model offers a glimpse of Jaguar’s vision with the Type 00 concept, unveiled at 2024 Miami Art Week. Managing Director Rawdon Glover highlighted the synergy with art, emphasizing its global prestige and its resonance with the brand’s target clientele.

Staying faithful to founder William Lyons’ ethos to “copy nothing,” the Type 00 blends heritage with bold modernity. Its sleek proportions and distinctive side cutlines evoke echoes of the iconic E-Type coupe, seamlessly integrating classic and futuristic elements.

The Type 00’s striking design features a fastback coupe silhouette, a long hood, and dramatic scissor doors. A jet-inspired greenhouse and a slatted rear grille element add to its daring aesthetic, complemented by a sealed front grille that hints at its electrified future.

While the design feels forward-thinking, many features will transition to production. Design chief Gerry McGovern confirmed the intent to create concepts that pave the way for production vehicles, signaling the Type 00’s significant role in Jaguar’s reinvention.

Jaguar has teased its first next-gen EV prototype, a sleek four-door grand tourer. Despite heavy camouflage in images, its silhouette reflects strong inspiration from the Type 00 concept, signaling a cohesive design direction across the lineup.

A fresh minimalist logo debuts on the Type 00, prominently displayed on its body and brass camera housings. With no rear window, advanced camera technology ensures rearward visibility, marking another leap toward cutting-edge innovation.

Inside, the cabin exudes futuristic elegance, leveraging the EV platform for a more open design. Highlights include a floating center console, an oval steering wheel, and retractable digital screens, delivering a blend of technology and sophistication.

Jaguar’s forthcoming EVs will carry premium pricing, with the grand tourer starting around £100,000 ($163,000). Other anticipated models may include a flagship SUV and a luxury sedan, further expanding the lineup.

Built on Jaguar’s bespoke JEA platform in the U.K., the EVs promise up to 1,000 hp, 430 miles of range, and ultra-fast charging, adding 200 miles in just 15 minutes. This exclusive architecture ensures they stand apart from the broader JLR family.

Announced in 2021, Jaguar’s shift to EVs has led to phasing out traditional models in select markets. Dealers are clearing inventory to prepare for new brand stores, with the first set to debut in Paris, heralding a bold new era for the marque.
