Hyundai’s 2026 Ioniq 9 is a new, compelling option for families seeking an electric SUV with three rows of seating. Unveiled recently, it will make its official debut at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show. Production is set to begin soon, with U.S. sales slated for early 2025. Pricing details will be available closer to launch, adding anticipation for this tech-laden, spacious EV.
Staying true to the Hyundai Seven concept shown in Los Angeles three years ago, the Ioniq 9 maintains its sleek design, highlighted by the striking pixelated light band that wraps around the rear. This design feature helps the Ioniq 9 stand out in a crowded market. Equipped with a 110.3-kWh battery, the vehicle offers an estimated range of 335 miles with rear-wheel drive and 19-inch wheels.
For performance, the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 delivers 215 hp, while the all-wheel-drive variants add a front motor for a total of 303 hp, or 422 hp in the Performance trim. With 21-inch wheels, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Towing capacity is up to 5,000 pounds, and charging is quick, with 10% to 80% in 24 minutes using a 350-kW charger. Bidirectional charging and a Tesla-style NACS port come standard.
Built on the same platform as Kia’s EV9, the Ioniq 9 offers a more refined, minivan-inspired design. The flat floor enhances interior space, especially in the third row, while the vehicle’s 199.1-inch length and 123.2-inch wheelbase provide generous cargo capacity—46.7 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. Inside, floating 12.0-inch screens, a sliding center console, and reclining seats focus on both comfort and simplicity.
Some markets will feature innovative rear-facing cameras instead of side mirrors, reducing aerodynamic drag from 0.269 to 0.259 Cd. However, U.S. models will retain standard mirrors. Alongside the Ioniq 9, Hyundai will also debut the Initium concept at the L.A. Auto Show, offering a glimpse into the design of the next-generation Nexo fuel cell vehicle. The Ioniq 9 also includes off-road modes, MyDrive customization, and six two-tone interior color options.
