Fortunately, this eye-catching design is backed by a range of practical features, positioning it as a noteworthy option in the competitive SUV segment.
Inside, the 2025 Santa Fe impresses with its spacious cabin and standard three-row seating, catering well to families and those needing extra room. A generous cargo area enhances its utility, while an extensive array of standard features adds value and convenience for everyday use.
DESIGN
All five trim levels of the Santa Fe sport a rugged, blocky appearance that suggests off-road potential, but the XRT is specifically designed to embrace that promise. Equipped with standard all-wheel drive, this variant stands out among the lineup. Additionally, it features a raised height of 1.3 inches compared to other trims and comes with all-terrain tires to tackle diverse terrains.
Inside, practical amenities enhance the XRT’s appeal, including a 110-volt outlet that allows you to power up camping gear or other outdoor equipment. With a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds, it can pull more weight than any other Santa Fe variant, offering an extra edge for adventurous outings.
While it may not match the Jeep Wrangler’s off-road prowess, the Santa Fe XRT provides a solid option for families wanting a three-row SUV with some adventurous spirit. It effectively blends everyday practicality with the thrill of occasional exploration, making it a well-rounded choice for active lifestyles.
PERFORMANCE
XRT models utilize a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces an impressive 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Significant enhancements to the cooling system include a higher-output radiator fan and larger grille openings designed to improve airflow. This configuration enables the XRT to achieve a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds, representing a 1,000-pound increase compared to standard non-hybrid models.
While not the best in its class for towing, this capacity is adequate for hauling small campers or utility trailers. It’s essential to mention that a trailer hitch is not standard equipment, so potential buyers should seek models with this feature if towing is a priority.
Fuel efficiency does see a decline with the XRT, offering 19 mpg in urban settings and 26 mpg on highways, leading to a combined rating of 22 mpg. This places it slightly behind other non-hybrid Santa Fe trims by approximately 1 to 2 mpg. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission pairs seamlessly with the standard all-wheel-drive system.
Heightened ground clearance and all-terrain tires have a minimal impact on the driving experience on paved roads. Torque from the engine is more than sufficient, and shifts from the transmission are smooth, although some noise can be noticeable at higher RPMs. Generally, the engine remains quiet during typical driving conditions. While manual shift paddles are available, they are primarily advantageous for engine braking on steep descents.
In terms of handling, the Santa Fe performs admirably, displaying only mild body roll and respectable grip. However, it leans towards a more laid-back driving experience. The steering feedback is relatively light, lacking the sharp responsiveness found in sportier models.
Though it can accelerate quickly when necessary, this SUV invites drivers to relax in the supportive seats and appreciate the expansive visibility afforded by the tall windshield. The lightly firm suspension, combined with the taller sidewall of the XRT’s 18-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tires, efficiently cushions smaller road imperfections, contributing to an overall smoother ride.
