Claims of Chinese forced labor delay Audi, Porsche, Bentley imports at U.S. ports

Some Audi and Bentley vehicles are currently held at U.S. ports due to a Customs issue, linked to a component replacement requirement, as stated by a Volkswagen Group spokesperson. The problem is attributed to a microchip within a control unit, sourced from a western China supplier, which violates anti-forced labor laws.

Porsche and Lamborghini models are also impacted, with deliveries expected to resume by March’s end, although Volkswagen-branded vehicles remain unaffected. Porsche’s range, except for the 718 and Macan, confronts similar issues, prompting efforts for compliant replacements, albeit with potential delays.

Exact delays remain undisclosed, yet the company assures regular updates for both dealerships and customers awaiting deliveries. Supply chain disruptions, compounded by events like the Suez Canal blockage and Red Sea vessel attacks, have plagued the automotive industry, alongside challenges arising from the pandemic.
