New Land Cruiser revealed, featuring hybrid powertrain, affordable price, and retro design

Earlier this week, Toyota revealed the 2024 Land Cruiser, showcasing exciting updates. Set to hit the U.S. market in spring 2024, the new Land Cruiser boasts a turbocharged hybrid powertrain, a smaller footprint, retro design, and a more affordable starting price in the mid-$50,000 range.

The latest Land Cruiser model offers reduced size and a retro design, featuring Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and 5,000 Land Cruiser First Edition models. Compared to the outgoing model, it’s 4.4 inches narrower and 1.2 inches shorter, with round headlights on the base and top-spec models, and rectangular LED headlights on the mid-trim model.

Toyota replaced the V-8 engine with a hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine with a 48-hp electric motor, delivering a combined output of 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Full-time four-wheel drive and off-road capabilities are standard, with the mid- and top-spec models offering disconnecting front sway bars.

Built on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, the Land Cruiser features a suspension setup with double-wishbones in the front and multilink suspension in the rear. It provides impressive off-road angles, a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, and optional rock rails and skid plates for added protection.

Inside, the base model offers heated cloth seats, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, and a 2,400-watt AC inverter. The mid-spec model adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, and synthetic leather seats. Leather seats are exclusive to the top-spec First Edition.

For safety, every Land Cruiser includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control, with an optional surround-view camera system available.
