Rolls-Royce CEO warns against flipping Spectre EV, vows to blacklist offenders from future sales

The CEO of Rolls-Royce, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, has firmly opposed customers who try to resell the newly unveiled Rolls Spectre. In an interview with Car Dealer, he made it explicitly clear that those engaging in such activities will face severe consequences, including a permanent ban from purchasing another vehicle from any dealership.

During the launch event held in California, Müller-Ötvös emphasized the stringent measures in place to verify the authenticity and intentions of potential buyers. He highlighted the significance of meeting specific requirements to secure the opportunity to place an order.

However, individuals who violate the company’s policies by reselling the vehicle at an inflated price will be immediately placed on a blacklist, thus forfeiting any chance of acquiring a future vehicle.

The highly luxurious Spectre is soon to accept orders, and deliveries are scheduled for the autumn season. In the UK, the vehicle’s base price is approximately $425,000.

This announcement has generated mixed reactions, particularly among dealers in Britain, who argue that reselling at higher prices is legally permissible. Some dealers, such as Tom Hartle from London, known for dealing in pre-owned Rolls-Royce models, expressed their discontent with Rolls-Royce.

Hartle revealed that he had already secured agreements to sell two Spectres with a premium of £50,000 ($65,000). He confidently stated that a Spectre would be available for sale at his used-car dealership within two weeks of its launch.

In expressing his discontent, Hartle pointed out the carmaker’s stance as unjust, arguing that it is unreasonable for manufacturers to impose restrictions on customers regarding the usage of a vehicle for which they have invested nearly half a million pounds.
