Mercedes-Benz brings ChatGPT to customers in the United States

Today, Mercedes-Benz announced the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the voice control feature of specific vehicles. The luxury car manufacturer plans to introduce the AI chatbot into cars equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system, launched in 2018. Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service will facilitate this integration.

Starting June 16, an optional beta phase will be introduced for over 900,000 MBUX-equipped vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz X 294 model. This beta phase will last three months according to the company’s statement.

Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that integrating ChatGPT will enhance system responses and enable engaging, hands-free conversations with drivers while ensuring their focus remains on the road.

It’s worth mentioning that Mercedes-Benz isn’t the first automaker exploring ChatGPT’s application in vehicles. In March, General Motors expressed interest, with President Scot Miller elaborating on the AI chatbot’s potential to access owner’s manual information and seamlessly integrate calendar schedules into the car system.
