626 hp unleashed: Introducing the 2024 Range Rover Sport SV

The Range Rover Sport has undergone a remarkable redesign and was unveiled in 2023. Additionally, a new flagship model named the Range Rover Sport SV has been introduced for the 2024 model year. This latest iteration succeeds the previous-generation Range Rover Sport SVR, reflecting an expanded array of customization choices for prospective buyers. JLR, the automaker, employs its SVO personalization division to develop vehicles bearing the SV designation in their names.

Beneath its sleek exterior, the Range Rover Sport SV houses a potent turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine, procured from BMW, similar to its counterpart in the standard Range Rover variant. Accompanied by a mild-hybrid system, this engine exhibits an astonishing peak power of 626 horsepower. This immense strength enables the SUV to achieve an impressive 0 to 60 mph acceleration in a mere 3.6 seconds, while reaching a remarkable top speed of 180 mph. Complementing the engine’s prowess is an 8-speed automatic transmission, seamlessly integrated with the standard all-wheel drive system.

In order to achieve peak performance and superior handling abilities, JLR engineers have integrated multiple upgrades into the chassis of the Range Rover Sport. The enhancements encompass a fresh rear sub-frame, modified suspension geometry, an accelerated steering ratio, and specialized SV calibrations for a range of systems, including all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring through brake application, and an active rear differential with locking capabilities.

A noteworthy improvement to highlight is the integration of the 6D Dynamics suspension, featuring a combination of hydraulic interlinked dampers, height-adjustable air springs, and pitch control. This groundbreaking system effectively maintains the vehicle’s body at a near-level position when executing sharp turns, rendering traditional anti-roll bars unnecessary.

With the Range Rover Sport SV, the ride height can be adjusted based on the chosen drive mode, with the SV Mode being the most aggressive. This particular mode lowers the vehicle by 0.4 to 1.0 inch compared to other models in the lineup. Additionally, the various drive modes also modify a multitude of parameters, including throttle response, transmission calibration, all-wheel drive and steering systems, as well as the sound emitted by the exhaust.

In addition to the standard forged alloy wheels, customers are provided with the choice to select 23-inch carbon-fiber wheels, which significantly reduce the unsprung mass of the vehicle by over 75 pounds. Furthermore, as an alternative to the standard iron set, carbon-ceramic brake rotors can be opted for, resulting in an additional 75-pound reduction in unsprung mass. Carbon fiber is also skillfully employed in crafting the hood and seatbacks, further enhancing the overall weight reduction.

Incorporating staggered wheel sizes, the Range Rover Sport SV is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires, featuring 285 mm dimensions at the front and 305 mm at the rear. As per JLR, this configuration enables the vehicle to achieve over 1.1 g on the skid pad, signifying a remarkable 22% improvement compared to the previous Range Rover Sport SVR equipped with summer tires. Such performance levels rival those seen in dedicated track-oriented sports cars. During its initial year of production, the Range Rover Sport SV will be exclusively offered in a special Edition One trim, accessible by invitation only.

Distinctive elements exclusive to the Edition One trim encompass branded embellishments on the front splitter, center console, door sills, and puddle lamps. Additionally, an outstanding inclusion is the Body and Soul Seat, integrating transducers within the seat that generate vibrations, enabling occupants to experience the rhythmic pulse of the music. Moreover, the vehicle incorporates a wellness program aimed at reducing stress and fostering relaxation by influencing the intervals between heartbeats.
