A new offer from Tesla is attempting to incentivize owners of older Model S and Model X cars who possess the “unlimited free Supercharging for life” benefit to surrender it. When the Model S and Model X were first launched, Tesla provided complimentary Supercharging for the entire lifespan of the vehicle.
While this was a lucrative offer, it was unsustainable and was terminated in 2018, though it was temporarily revived as a promotional deal. Despite this, several hundred thousand Tesla vehicles continue to have unlimited free Supercharging worldwide.
Earlier this year, Tesla attempted to eliminate a certain benefit by providing a $5,000 extra discount to owners who traded in their Model S and Model X vehicles that had unlimited free Supercharging. Presently, Tesla is further intensifying this endeavor with its “Ownership Loyalty Benefit.”
To incentivize customers to purchase a new Model S or Model X before the end of the quarter, the automaker is granting them six years of unrestricted Supercharging. Nonetheless, to be eligible for this promotion, customers need to either trade in their current vehicle or forgo the unlimited Supercharging feature on their existing car and acquire a new Model S or Model X on or before June 30, 2023.
Although it might appear that owners can hold on to their older Model S or Model X vehicle with this deal, they are actually required to forfeit their unrestricted Supercharging privilege and enter into an agreement to receive six years of complimentary Supercharging on their new vehicle.
