At the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Kia unveiled two bold concepts: the EV9 ADVNTR and PV5 WKNDR, both hinting at a rugged, electrified future. These models, introduced on Tuesday, reflect Kia’s adventurous and practical vision, providing insight into how the brand aims to reshape off-road and utility electric vehicles for an evolving market.
Kia’s EV9 ADVNTR concept expands on their three-row electric SUV, adding serious off-road enhancements to the model released last year. The PV5 WKNDR, meanwhile, is a midsize van concept geared for commercial use, signaling Kia’s entry into purpose-built EVs designed for flexible utility, such as shuttle and delivery applications, in varied environments.
While a U.S. launch of the PV5 remains uncertain, its SEMA appearance suggests Kia’s interest in gauging consumer response. According to Steven Center, COO of Kia America, the SEMA Show serves as “a blank canvas for creativity,” underscoring Kia’s expanding focus on versatile, innovative EV solutions that cater to diverse customer needs and lifestyles.
The EV9 ADVNTR sports a lifted suspension by 3.0 inches, ruggedized bumpers for steeper approach and departure angles, and protective rocker panels. Its tough off-road tires, along with a roof rack designed for outdoor gear, cement its off-road readiness, making it an appealing option for adventure enthusiasts and rugged terrains.
Kia’s EV9 line could soon expand with the rumored high-performance EV9 GT, expected next year. Test vehicles have already been seen tackling the Nürburgring, indicating Kia’s drive to push performance and durability boundaries in its electric lineup, catering to both thrill-seekers and off-road explorers alike.
