Hyundai Partners With BigTime to Give the Ioniq 9 a Retro-Rugged Off-Road Twist

Built in partnership with BigTime, Hyundai’s fresh take on the Ioniq 9 trades suburban polish for trail-flavored attitude. Already launched earlier this year as a smooth-riding electric family SUV with just 6.9 inches of ground clearance, it rarely hints at dirt-road intentions. Jeremiah Burton and Zach Jobe changed that narrative, working with Hyundai to create a tougher presence and dial up mild off-pavement capability.

Work began with the upscale Calligraphy trim, a model that starts at $76,590 and brings serious muscle through a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout delivering 422 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. A lifted suspension made room for chunky BFGoodrich all-terrain tires wrapped around white OZ Racing wheels, instantly adding rally-style personality and a more adventurous stance than the standard version.

Finishing touches lean heavily into retro charm and functional simplicity. A roof light bar stands ready for nighttime trail runs, while a brown-and-tan wrap draws from late-70s color palettes and features large Hyundai branding on the hood with playful BigTime script along the sides. Inspiration traces back to the YouTuber’s own 1977 Kenworth cabover truck, and while this concept likely stays a one-off, it gives Hyundai’s flagship EV a confident, nostalgic edge.
