Uber’s Go-Get event unveils teen accounts, group rides, grocery orders, and Nuna car seats

During Uber’s annual Go-Get product showcase, the company unveiled several updates. These updates encompass a range of new features, including the ability to reserve a ride with a car seat, the option to call an Uber without using the app, and the inclusion of teenagers in a family profile, among others.

Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber, emphasized the company’s commitment to building services that prioritize the needs of individuals. “Whether you choose to stay at home or venture out, our focus remains on creating human-centered solutions,” he remarked during the event.

Outlined below are the key new offerings that were announced during Wednesday’s event:

FAMILY

Family profiles and teen accounts

By setting up a family profile on Uber, you can link multiple Uber accounts together, allowing you to pay for rides and deliveries from a single account while receiving real-time location and order updates.

Recognizing that teens are constantly on the move for various activities, such as sports practices and job interviews, Uber is introducing teen accounts designed for parents and caretakers of 13-17 year olds to move teens safely under their supervision. This feature offers screened and experienced drivers, with only highly-rated drivers being eligible to complete trips with teens.

Additionally, the account includes privacy-preserving safety features such as Verify My Ride, RideCheck, and Audio Recording, as well as live trip tracking, which enables parents to follow the trip’s progress and identify who is behind the wheel and where their teen is headed.

Parents can also contact the driver directly during a trip, reach out to Uber’s support team, or report any issues on behalf of their teen. Starting May 22, teen accounts for rides will be available in select cities across the US and Canada, while teen accounts for Uber Eats will also be available soon.

Uber car seat

To alleviate the stress of traveling with a young child in tow, Uber has partnered with Nuna, a renowned car seat manufacturer, to provide rides equipped with their premium and fashionable car seats. Initially available in New York City and Los Angeles, Uber Car Seat enables parents and caregivers to conveniently request and secure a ride featuring Nuna’s RAVA car seat, designed to safely accommodate children weighing between 5 and 65 lbs.

1-833-USE-UBER

Uber has addressed feedback about family members unfamiliar with smartphones. A toll-free number, 1-833-USE-UBER, now enables easy access to Uber. By calling, customers can schedule or request rides in English or Spanish, ensuring convenience for all.

FUN

Group grocery orders

Simplifying the process of creating a customized grocery cart for delivery has become even more convenient. Uber Eats now offers the feature of group grocery orders, allowing you to effortlessly collaborate with your roommates, family members, or vacation companions.

With this feature, you can invite others to contribute their desired items to a shared cart, set deadlines for adding their essentials, and even benefit from automated bill splitting at most stores, ensuring a hassle-free experience. Additionally, if you wish to place a recurring grocery order and remind your family to add their items each week, that functionality is also available.

Group rides

In select cities, Uber will soon offer the option to invite others to share group rides. The app will update routes automatically for optimal efficiency. Additionally, individuals will be billed for their portion of the ride to avoid uncomfortable money situations and potentially save money.

Video gift messaging

In order to add a special and unforgettable touch to gift-giving through Uber Eats, you now have the option to create a personalized video message to go along with your gift. This feature is currently available for gift cards and will soon extend to all items on the platform, ranging from flowers and chocolates to your preferred tikka masala.

TRAVEL

Boat

This summer in Greece, Uber is introducing a new feature that extends their services to the water. Vacationers and boat enthusiasts now have the exciting option to book a boat directly through the Uber app. With Boat, you can gather up to 8 individuals and embark on a delightful cruise to explore popular destinations around the picturesque island of Mykonos.

Uber Central

Uber introduces Central, enabling hospitality concierges to arrange rides for guests using Uber for Business. This convenient feature streamlines transportation, from airport transfers to museum visits.

Stay informed with timely notifications and effortlessly track the progress of your ride. Central empowers businesses in various industries to provide outstanding customer experiences.
