Don’t pet this kitty: the Challenger Hellcat bites

When we first heard about the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, we knew one thing: it would be the most powerful Challenger ever. Turns out it’s a helluva lot more than that – the Hellcat is going down in the books as the most powerful muscle car.  Ever.

You ready for the numbers?  SRT’s newest creation – call it a super muscle car – pumps out 707 horsepower, and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The power comes from the first factory supercharged HEMI engine: a 6.2 liter V-8 supercharged beast. But don’t worry: if you don’t want all 707 ponies, Dodge is giving a Matrix style decision: there’s a red key, and a black key. The red gives you all the fun that you can find, while the black key limits the output to “only” 500 horses.

Of course, the engine isn’t the only thing noteworthy about the Challenger Hellcat. The exterior is even more aggressive, the interior is an homage to the 1971 Challenger, and a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission is a huge improvement over previous iterations of the Challenger’s gearbox.

But all that is secondary to the 707 horsepower, and the 650 lb-ft of torque. This ain’t your neighbor’s cat, or your mama’s pony: it’s the most powerful muscle car of all time.

Well done, SRT.  Well done.
