DP-100: the Aston Martin virtual supercar

Playstation 3’s highly anticipated Gran Turismo 6 is breaking out all the stops: including a dream Aston Martin that you’ll only ever experience with the game.  For Gran Tursismo 6’s 15th anniversary, PS3 asked a number of noteworthy automakers to develop a virtual version of their dream cars; thankfully for gamers everywhere, Aston Martin did not hold back.

Aston Martin’s design director Marek Reichman led the way behind the DP-100 (DP for “Design Prototype”), which was unveiled with the other Gran Turismo 6 virtual cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Just because the car is virtual, doesn’t mean the design team didn’t go all out. They spent six months perfecting the supercar, which pushes out 800 hp from its mid-engine V-12. The design team prided themselves on certain DP-100 features – notably the active aerodynamic technology – that allow gamers to not only drive a beautiful car, but one with optimum in game performance, as well.

Reichman also specified that many of the innovative features in the DP-100 will make it out of the DP-100, and into the street, at one point or another, meaning that the virtual supercar may be just a dream car for now, but will still have an impact on the Aston Martins that some people are fortunate enough to own.

If you’re not one of those fortunate people, fear not: the dream supercars are available for a free download to Gran Turismo 6 players.
