New Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo wows LA Auto Show crowd

The gullwing aluminum glossy racer speeds along the road powered by a 585 horsepower twin-turbo V-8. The silver painted body over an oversized bonnet and bulging wheelbase roar into the future of the Mercedes-Benz supercar; the virtual future.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Gran Turismo is Daimler’s most advanced concept car. The vision was inspired to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the Grand Turismo racing game for PlayStation 3; Mercedes pushed further and built the breathtaking supercar.

Gran Turismo’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi challenged the leading automakers to develop virtual concept showcars to be featured in the sixth installment of the world’s most popular video game. The unveiling of these vehicles will come in the form of updates to the video game.

Mercedes answered the call with a Formula 1 inspired racer born from the legacy of the 1930s racers and the 300SL. The long bonnet is accented by a greenhouse rear offset and broad shoulder contour. The shell of the body is muscular with a a sleek oversized hood. The rear wheelbase features a smaller overhand in the front and longer on the rear overhang providing acceleration and power.

The virtual world and the innovation of auto development inspired technical and aesthetic advancements. Enhanced geometric headlamps, LED grille, fuel cap and red glowing contour lines accentuating the lower section of the body distinguishes the AMG Gran Turismo from previous renowned supercars like the SLS AMG.

The most inspiring and futuristic vision is displayed by the single-sheet glass dashboard in the shape of gullwing doors. The display; positioned directly above the racing steering wheel shows relevant driving information including road speed, engine speed and driving temperature. The overall feel resembles a jet cockpit.

And if the super of all supercars leaves the car enthusiast wanting more, Gran Turismo 6 will offer an alternate version of the virtual showcar equipped with a fixed rear spoiler and a third red rear break light featuring the Grand Turismo Logo.

Visitors to this week’s LA Auto Show can find themselves behind the wheel of a gullwing aluminum glossy racer speeding along the road powered by a 585 horsepower twin-turbo V-8; virtually, thanks to Gran Turismo in the shadow of the life-sized concept Mercedes Benz AMG Gran Turismo.
