Smart fourjoy set for Frankfurt debut

Smart is readying a compact four-seater, the fourjoy, for debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Daimler AG subsidiary is even calling its newest model “the forerunner of a new smart generation.”

The fourjoy lacks doors, a rear window and has an open roof. Already ultra-compact, the four-seater has a turning radius of 9.1 meters and is powered by a 55 kW magneto-electric engine, which runs on a lithium-ion battery with 17.6 kWh capacity. It takes up to seven hours to fully charge when drained and can be charged via any household socket.

At public charging stations, the battery can be charged in just one hour via a 22 kW on-board charger and a rapid charging cable.

Design-wise, the fourjoy is based on the original smart model series with familiar short overhangs. The large brand emblem is displayed on the front grille and honeycomb form of the air inlets are nods to previously introduced concepts smart for-us and smart forstars.

Interior features include two “futuristic-looking front seats and the rear seat bench with a similar design,” according to a smart news release, which adds that the design was inspired by “modern lounge furniture.”

The smart fourjoy also includes electric skateboards and helmets on the roof and under the rear seats, respectively. An HD camera is also provided to film skateboarding adventures and share them via social media.
