Decade in, Bugatti joyous over 450th Veyron in production

Bugatti 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse La Finale

Rappers Drake and Ace Hood have made hit songs name-dropping Bugatti, which has become the epitome and pinnacle of a fast yet uber-luxurious ‘super sports car,’ as automakers call the market segment. From within, though, the Bugatti guys seem no slouches when it comes to celebrating the good life.

The party moment has arrived with the 450th production Veyron going on display at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The car going up there is a Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse “La Finale” with number 450 chassis number, manufactured at the company factory in Molsheim. Sadly, there will be no more Veyron’s made (which means their prices will go up!)

The specs should induce jaw drops on paper, as the Veyron produces 1,183 hp from an 8-liter, W-16 engine with torque topping 1,106 lb.-ft. The Veyron sprints from zero to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 254 mph.

Out of the 450 Veyrons produced – planned, rather – all have been sold. If you’re keeping score at home, that’s 300 coupes and 150 open-top super sports cars that set buyers back way over eight figures (“imagine the insurance rates” sounds like a cliché right about now).

“Including options, the average price of the vehicles recently sold is €2.3 million,” Bugatti said in a press release.

Bugatti launched the Veyron 10 years ago and the supercar has captured the imaginations of car enthusiasts, the aforementioned celebrities and assorted fans worldwide for good reason.

With Veyron’s production run wrapped up, Bugatti is venturing into a new chapter in its young histroy – calling the “development of a its next model” as a “sequel” to its first decade’s sweet success. “With the next Bugatti model, we are aiming to consolidate and expand the market-leading position we have established with the Veyron,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, president of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

If you want to feast your eyes on the Veyron, stay tuned here (unless you have the means to hop a flight to Geneva between March 5 and March 15). The Bugatti will be basking its glory in hall 1 of the Palexpo exhibition centre.
