Elon Musk: Tesla working on ‘solid metal snake’ wall charger

Elon Musk took to Twitter at 6:27 a.m. on New Year’s Eve to let the world in on the latest innovation soon to come from Tesla, which just announced an improved battery and seems to never be short on innovative ideas.

Musk tweeted: “Btw, we are actually working on a charger that automatically moves out from the wall & connects like a solid metal snake.” And is if he thought the tech world at large didn’t believe him, the entrepreneur quipped, “for realz.”

In a later tweet, Musk said the new charging technology would work with current Model S cars as well as Tesla’s future vehicles.

Musk has not revealed what the ‘solid metal snake’ charger would look like, but Tech Crunch already envisions Doctor Octopus’ robotic arms – complete with a fun GIF, of course – “but less threatening and evil.” The site jokingly reasoned that the idea behind the technology is to make charging one’s Tesla “more idiot-proof,” since Tesla owners “can’t forget to plug in car when the plug is autonomous, after all.”

Convenience is definitely a key theme of the future, it appears – for Musk and Tesla, especially.
