2016 Jaguar XE live photos: 2014 Paris Motor Show

The new Jaguar XE was purpose built to be the “drivers car,” in the midsize saloon segment. This is evident due to the various trim and engine packages available and the list is seemingly endless. Jaguar has essentially created a new brand in recent years and the new XE is an extension to their new image. The XE offers a luxurious yet high-performance experience that’s tailored to every driver.

Jag XE Trim Levels

SE: This is the entry-level package for the Jag and features cloth seats as standard with a gloss black treatment throughout the door and dash. Also standard is the Sat Nav, cruise control, 17” alloys, and leather steering wheel.

Prestige: A modern twist to the SE trim, yet upgraded with leather and a contrasting stitching design with heated front seats. For a little extra you can have the air-cooled seat option. The ambient lighting is one to remember with its Phosphor Blue cabin lights. Keeping with the prestige feeling as the trim package title suggests, the doors and dash are finished in a premium brushed aluminum instead of gloss black.

Portfolio: This trim package boasts the most luxurious interior of the XE model. With a wide range of color options for the leather seats and split color option for the two-tone dash completes the premium feel. However, Jaguar spares no expense as you can choose your stitching color as well. While you still get the aluminum fit and finish, it has a more embossed finish. The portfolio trim is well equipped as well with a Meridian audio system, 10-way front seat configuration driven electronically, Bi-Xenon headlights with signature LEDs.

R-Sport: While the portfolio may be the most luxurious, the R-Sport is of course a sportier version. You can still enjoy heated leather seats but they are sport seats. The regular steering wheel has been replaced with a sport style wheel along with R-Sport badging throughout. The exterior has a rear spoiler with a sports suspension to match the sportier look.

S: This being the most performance-oriented XE model features a racing inspired interior with the sports steering wheel, leather sport seats, and treated plates all display the “S” badging. The front bumper has visibly larger air intakes to help cool the V-6 supercharged engine.

Exterior & Design

Jaguar enthusiasts can appreciate the heritage and inspiration of where this car derived. The XE received its inspiration from the iconic Mk II, which was the first car to blend uncanny performance in a four-door saloon without compromise. The XE keeps this tradition alive while introducing a modern twist. The car visibly stunning with its sharp yet exquisite body lines coupled with the most aerodynamic Jag ever produced. This milestone was not achieved overnight. In fact, it took Jaguar over 8,000,000 (8 million) hours of processing time. The lightweight construction offers a more alive driving experience without compromising strength.

Power & Performance

The XE offers a wide range of engine options for every style of driver. A 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder, and diesel engines are available.

2.0-liter diesel-offers two power variants, which can produce 163 hp and 180 hp with the 163 hp option being the most efficient Jag ever and ranges up to 75 mpg.

2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder offers performance with efficiency. With two powerplant options available from 200 hp and 240 hp.

3.0-liter supercharged V-6 pulled straight from the F-TYPE is sure to offer power when needed. This 340 hp engine produces a 0-60 time in just 4.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 155 mph.

The good news with all these engine and trim options is you can find the perfect blend of power, elegance, and efficiency you need at the price you want. The XE with 2.0d with SE trim starts under $30k. There are 22 price options throughout this one model and I am confident we look no further than Jaguar for our next sports saloon.
