Justin Bieber’s love of driving fast – and living a rock star lifestyle – has finally caught up to him. The pop sensation who made news in 2013 for angering his gated community neighbors with his Michael Schumacher antics on residential roads reached a new low Thursday morning: he was arrested for street racing a Lamborghini while driving impaired.
Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach for going 55-60 in a 30mph residential area while street racing against a Ferrari driven by his unidentified friend. Police reports say that the Lamborghini was yellow, but did not specify the model; given that Bieber was 2500 miles from his home, it’s likely that the car was a rental, and not his. Bieber’s posse had blocked off the street with black SUVs, keeping traffic away from their homemade drag strip.
Unfortunately for Bieber, speeding was not his only issue. Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez said,
“At first, he was a little belligerent, using some choice words questioning why he was being stopped, and why the officer was even questioning him. When [the officer] opened up the window and confronted Mr. Bieber, he smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage . . . [Bieber] made some statements that he had consumed some alcohol, and that he had been smoking marijuana and consumed some prescription medication.”
After failing a field sobriety test, Bieber was booked into jail, and charged with drunken driving, driving without a valid license, and resisting arrest. His friend was arrested on charges of drunk driving. The police department is also looking into complaints that some of their officers escorted Bieber around Miami earlier in the night without authorization.
