Man buys $200,000 Lamborghini Gallardo with Bitcoins

Just over a week ago, a Florida resident purchased a Tesla Model S from Lamborghini Newport Beach using Bitcoins – an entirely electronic currency. At the time, the dealership – located in Southern California – stated that they would be accepting Bitcoins from any customers.

They weren’t lying. On Tuesday a 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo was purchased from the dealership for the price of 216.8433 Bitcoins, which is currently the equivalent of $209,995.

The transaction was supposed to remain entirely anonymous – one of the highlights of the digital currency – but documents were leaked online, and a man on 4chan’s technology board is claiming he is the lucky buyer. The dealership won’t know until the transaction passes Bitpay, and becomes finalized.

Lamborghini Newport Beach claims that, since making headlines when they sold the Tesla, they have received inquiries from 20 very serious potential buyers. Considering that the company usually sells five new vehicles and 15 used ones per month, this can be considered a pretty substantial move forward. Said the dealership’s marketing director, Cedric Davy,

It’s an interesting thing because after the first transaction, it’s something for us that went viral in a way we weren’t even considering.  We got a lot of phone calls from people with interest in buying with Bitcoin.

It looks as though the Newport Beach dealer will have a leg up on their competitors until other dealerships catch on. And it looks as though this is the future.
