Cadillac unveils new Elmiraj Concept at Pebble Beach

Cadillac is aspiring to grab an additional share of the luxury market in the future with the introduction of the Elmiraj Concept – a “modern update” to the two-door grand coupe design. The coupe indeed appears grand as it combines sleek design and performance over a chassis and structure of Cadillac’s vehicle development project already underway, slated for future production

The Elmiraj sports a 4.5-liter twin turbocharged V-8 with 500 hp and takes the baseline technology from the new Cadillac Twin Turbo V-6 featured in the upcoming 420-hp 2014 CTS Vsport edition.

Cadillac noted that most of the celebrated automotive designs in history have been luxury coupes and one specific model was singled out as particularly influential.

“We were influenced in particular by the 1967 Eldorado, both its actual design and the fact that in its time that car was a very stark contrast and a new direction,” said Clay Dean, executive director of advanced design.

Another designer, Niki Smart, said the “Elmiraj is about poise and proportion.” The performance aspect is indicated in the two vents in the car’s long hood that act as hot air outlets for the twin turbo engine. The car’s rich blue exterior finish wears the brand’s Vsport designation, Cadillac’s new level slotting directly under the high-performance V-Series.
