All-new Mazda3 Sedan officially revealed

A fastback (read: saloon body) Mazda3 will be available along with the hatchback version later this year and from the specs just made available, Mazda appears to have a winner on its hands. Both versions come with Mazda’s much-publicized lightweight SKYACTIV technology and KODO Soul of Motion design.

The differentiating factor, however, is the new 2,700mm wheelbase, which Mazda notes is the longest in the C-segment and 60mm longer than the current, 2013 Mazda3 model. Both body styles are 40mm wider and 15mm lower than the 2013 model, while the saloon has a different roof, rear window, rear wing and boot lid. The fastback and hatchback both feature rear seat backrests which fold almost flat and the saloon’s boot opening width is larger and can accommodate more luggage.

Mazda will be offering three naturally-aspirated high compression petrol powerplants and one turbocharged diesel. The high power SKYACTIV-G will also be available in the hatchback with the company’s i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system. Under the hood, a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter petrol engine will be available in standard (120ps) and high-power (165ps) versions.

The 2014 Mazda3 will be on sale this fall. Pricing has not been announced.
